Chick Study We will be updating this page as we do our chick Hatching Study. Incubation will start on April 4th and the chicks should start hatching on April 24th.
Checking the Incubator out and putting the eggs in on Day 1!
Day 7: You can Start to see the chick forming in the egg
Day 9: The eye and some veins can be seen while candeling the egg. Candeling is when we place the egg on a bright light that allows us to see what is happening inside the egg. This is used throughout the incubation process to make sure the eggs are fertile, they are developing properly and none have died. You can see the chick moving in the video here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/gCCxpsuEos5yTbgh9
Day 18: The incubator is put into lockdown. That means the turner gets taken out, the eggs are put on their sides and the incubator can no longer be opened until the eggs are done hatching.. The humidity also needs to rise to 65-80%. It's important that the humidity is high to keep the membrane on the inside of the egg from drying out during hatching. The chicks could get stuck in their eggs if it drys out. Now we wait for Monday, the 21st day of incubation, Hatching Day!!
